How to Catch Fish: The Best Secret

Well, not exactly. I'm letting him borrow it to write about one of his passions - fishing.

He has been fishing now for 30+ years and has learned a lot in the process. He has fished from the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific and a lot of freshwater spots in between.

The information that is about to be shared might get me into trouble but you deserve to finally know the truth. This secret will work for any fisherman, anywhere that puts it into practice.

The information about to be shared is hardly ever taught for various reasons. Many fisherman rely on certain things such as: luck, a specific bait, time, location, or lure that has worked for them in the past. They do not want other people to know what they know or go where they go. They want to protect their special spots from being overfished. Sometimes people like to just watch inexperienced anglers. They find it humorous to see people try so hard to catch something and wind up tired and frustrated. There are also other personal reasons fishermen would not want their secrets revealed that are too numerous to go into any detail. Once you learn the secret and apply it, you should be able to go anywhere there are fish and catch them consistently. You should no longer be the joke of the day because of frustration, but you would become the one who others want to emulate.

Adaptation. Fish are in an ever changing environment. Their feeding habits change as the environment changes. You the angler must change what you are doing to match what the fish want to eat when they want to eat it. You the angler must also, present the bait or lure in a manner that will make the fish want to eat it. That in a nutshell is the secret. People are creatures of habit and do not like change, so they stick with one thing that is understood to work from past experience. That is why an angler can have one great fishing day and so many days without catching anything.

As said before, my husband has been fishing for over 30 years. However, he did not learn how to catch fish until he spent a year fishing in Hawaii. While learning the secret, he had this happen. One evening before dark he was fishing for o'amas at Iroquois Point. There were quite a few other local fishermen. Two locals were fishing the same school of fish; one on his left side and one on his right. Everyone there could see the school feeding in the shallow water. My husband was using Aku egg for bait and the other two fishermen were using Aku belly. Now, Aku belly is an excellent bait for awamas as is Aku egg. That same night the fishermen there got to see an Ulua come up to the shallows and eat some Aku belly someone threw in the water to attract and hold the o'amas there. It was quite a site to see the jaws hit the ground as such a large fish swam from the depths so slowly and retreated back to the depths so slow and lazy after stopping to have an easy meal. Anyway, to get back to the point, my husband was catching o'amas one right after another. The other two were not catching anything. One said to the other, "They just aren't biting." This is at the same time as my husband is taking one off the hook between them. That is the point. Those two fishermen were using what usually works and were not adapting to what was currently working.
